I.
Objectives :
a. Distinguish
rhyming words from non-rhyming words
b. Sort
and classify familiar words into basic categories (colors, shapes, foods, etc).
c. Listen
to short stories/ poems and retell a story listened, give the correct sequence
of three events.
d. Talk
about stories heard, when and where it too place, the characters, some
important details of the story.
e. Use
action words and describing words when retelling and/or describing what
happened in a story.
II.
Recite a poem
Teacher
recites the poem “boys and girls come out to play” with the pupils. Pupils
identify some other words in the poem that rhyme and do not ryhme.

Girls and boys come
out to play
The moon it shines
as bright as day
Leave your supper,
and leave your sleep
And come to your
playmates in the street
Come with a whoop,
come with a call,
Come with a good
will, or come not at all
Up the ladder and
down the wall

III.
Sharing information
Teacher
shows a picture and asks the pupils questions about it. Pupils answer the
teacher’s questions.
Teacher
says : what do you see in the picture ?
are you polite like the boy ? do you also show respect to your elders ? tell
your seatmate how you show respect to your parents, grandparents and older
relatives. I will give you a few minutes to talk. Later, I will call some of
you to come to the front and share what do you and your partner discussed.
IV.
Word groups

Teacher review the pupils on the words
they learned from the previous day.
·
Teacher post a new graphic organizer and
pictures with labels on the board. He or she points at the pictures, read each
label, and ask the pupils to say and spell the names of the pictures. Pupils
group the words according to the given categories
1. LEAF
2. EGGPLANT
3. CHICK
4. SKY
5. WOOD
6. TOMATO
Teacher says : yesterday, we learned some
new words. Can you tell me those word ? can you still remember the groups of
those words ? very good ! today, we will learn new sets of words. We are also
giving to group them again. I posted a graphic organizer on the board. What do
you think is our category today ? that’s right ! our category for today is
colors. I have the words posted on the board.
V.
Retelling of read aloud story
“Arroz caldo ni lolo waldo”
- Teacher returns the pictures to the
pupils. Pupils use the pictures to retell the events of the story.
- Teacher says : go to your group mates. I
will return your pictures. You retell the events of the story using the
pictures. I will give you five minutes to plan and talk to your group mates.
Then, you will choose a member from your group to retell the story. Talk about
the character and the places where the story happened. Tell us about the
characters and say something about the places too.
VI.
Concluding the session
Homework : teacher ask the pupils to retell the
entire story to their families.
