STUDY AND PLAY

February, 6th 2018.

Today, mam katlen as my coordinator from xavier university will come to evaluating my demo-teaching today. the subjects is mathematics, the topic is "telling time". and I use props like toys clocks. teaching method is live experiment. 

at the first, I ask to them, How are you my students ? are you happy now ? and are you ready to studying mathematics now with me ? Yes teacher mega, we're very happy and ready to studying now.(they answer very excited).

I ask them "what time you come to the school ?", they answer : 06.30 teacher mega, 06.40 teacher mega, 07.00 teacher mega. after that I ask again "can you describing the clock ? and I show the clock to them. they answers : the shape is circle, 
what's the next ? how many number inside ?
they answer : the number from 1 until 12. 
what's the next ? how many hand inside ?
they answer : 2 hands, long and short.
okay, very good guys. I said to them.

I tell to them, okay my student, listen to me. the clock that I hold has 2 hands, short hand and long hand, short hand show an hours, and long hand show a minutes. you look carefully, this red one is short hand, the black one is long hand. when the long hand pointed at 12, and short hand pointed at 1, so it's mean that exactly one o’clock. are you understand ? yes teacher mega. 

after that  I make the students to be groups, consist of 4 person, and I give 1 toys clock/ group. I will mention the time, and they can arrange the correct hand based my instructions, if they answer often correct, I will give them a candy/ group. so they're very interest to answer.

okay, some of them answer correct and answer false because they confuse with long hand and short hand, but I tell one more to them, and after  that, all of them answer correctly. and I'm very happy,  as well mam katlen.

when all of them understand, I writing 5 question to the chalkboard, the instructions is : look at these time, and draw the clock to your book.

A.    Preparatory Activities (persiapan)

1.      Drill (latihan)
a.       Teacher show the calendar of january 2018.
b.      Teacher asking to pupils






2.      Review (meninjau/memeriksa)
Show jumbled letters in the pocket chart. Let the pupils form a word. The words they will from are names of the days and months. The teacher will give clues like :
-          Birthday of Jesus
-          First Day of School
-          Valentine’s Day
-          All Saint’s Day
-          Flores De Mayo



3.      Motivation (motivasi)
Introduce the puppet clock
 

Hi ! I’m Mr.Tick Tack Clock !
What can you see on my face ?
How many numbers do I have ?
How many hands are on my face ?

Pupils shows the name of the day using show cards.
a.       It is the first day of the week
b.      It is the second day of the week
c.       It is the seventh day of the week
d.      It is the fourth day of the week
e.       It is the fifth day of the week

Some pupils show the date in front of the class, to answer the question from teacher.























B.     Development Activities (pengembangan)
1.      Presentation (penyajian materi)
a.       To what number does Mr. Tick Tack Clock’s long hand to point to ?

To what number does Mr. Tick Tack Clock’s short hand to point to ?

Introduce the time indicated in the clock as 12.
Call one pupil to move the long hand clockwise.

How does the long hand move on ? what does the long hand tell ?

Guide the pupils in counting up to 60 minutes while moving the long hand around the clock.

How many minutes does it take for the long hand to move around the clock ?

What happened to the short hand pointing to 12 after the long hand had moved completely around the clock ?

To what number does the short hand move ?
Guide the pupils in telling the time : it is 1:00

b.      Repeat the procedure until the pupils understand that when the long hand has moved completely around the clock, it means that 60 minutes has passed and that is equal to 1 hour.

Show two ways of writting time.
10 A.M         10:00 A.M
1  P.M         1:00 P.M
Have the pupils read the time.

c.       Teacher sets the time using the puppet, Mr. Tick Tack Clock, and calls a pupil to tell the time orally. Do this exercise until everyone is called.



2.      Fixing Skill/ Practice (latihan langsung)
Group the pupils into 3. Provide each group with a toy or improvised clock. Teacher shows time on card. Members of each group shows the time using the toy clock. The first group to show the time correctly wins the game.


3.      Generalization (penyamarataan)
How do we tell the time ?
-          We tell the time by the hour

How many minutes does it take to make an hour ?
-          It takes 60 minutes to make an hour.


C.     Application (percobaan)
Pupils talk about the different activities at home and in the school and show the exact hour they do the activities (use toy clocks).
Example :
I wake up at 8:00 A.M
I go to school at 7:00 in the morning





-          Pupils show 8:00 on the toy clock
-          Pupils show 7:00 on the toy clock.

b.       Answer the problems. You may use your clock.
1.      Father went to the office at 8:00 A.M. He came home at 5:00 P.M. how long was father away ?  ...........
2.      The children played outside at 4:00 A.M. They stopped playing after an hour. What time did they stop playing ? .........
3.      Vicky read his book at 9:00 A.M. and stopped after one hour. What time did he stop reading ?..........
4.      The family watched a TV show at 6:00 P.M. it ended after 2 hours. What time did it end ? ..............
5.      Tom slept from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Vincent slept from 1:00 P.M until 3:00 P.M. Who slept longer ? ...........
